Call Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez - House Ways and Means Committee

Our message: Expert analyses have shown that we need to increase our renewable energy portfolio by 3% per year. Right now, the RPS bill has an incremental increase that only takes us to 2% - not enough to meet our urgent need to ensure a livable climate for our children!

Please call one of the leaders of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee that determines what bills go to the House for a vote:  Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez!

Introduce yourself:

Hello.  My name is  ___________ from Mothers Out Front.

I’m calling on behalf of _______________________[name the children in your life].

I’m calling to urge you to raise the Renewable Portfolio Standard to an annual increase of 3%.

Suggestions for more you can say:

  • I’m calling because my children’s/grandchildren’s future is at stake.  All of our children are counting on you to keep us on a viable path to a livable climate.  Please give House members the chance to vote for the 3% RPS increase.

  • It’s good to see the RPS bill reported out, but this bill fails to respond to the urgent need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. To meet this need, the RPS must increase by at least 3% annually.

  • The RPS is an essential driver in increasing clean energy in Massachusetts.  Renewables create well-paid job growth in a market-driven, clean energy economy.  In fact, a recent Berkeley Lab report shows that roughly half of all growth in U.S. renewable electricity generation since 2000 is associated with state RPS requirements.

  • With solar and wind quickly coming on line, a 3% RPS will continue driving these growth sectors.

  • Massachusetts is a national leader in renewables, and we should remain a leader! The RPS is our strongest tool for staying out in front.

  • Reducing our use of fossil fuels is good for our health.

  • Thank the person for their time.
